Town of Tilting, Newfoundland and Labrador For the past twelve years, culture and heritage has been a sector for development for the Town of Tilting , culminating in designation as Provincial Heritage District in June 2003 and a National Historic Site of Canada in September 2004.
Restoration projects have included numerous fish stages and
stores in the harbour as well a number of homes, one now a
museum and a number future commercial properties. Tilting is
investigating future twinning possibilities in Ireland and
is exploring opportunities in producing replica furniture in
restored homes, traditional fencing, traditional gardening
and preservation of its cemetery, site of first generation
Irish immigrants.
Premier Danny Williams and Minister Kathy
Dunderdale make official visit to Ireland
Danny
Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, led a
delegation on an official visit to Ireland from July 5 to 9,
2004 to reestablish economic ties with the Irish government.
Premier Williams was joined by Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of
Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. It was the
province’s first official visit to Ireland since October
2002. While in Ireland, the delegation met with Irish
officials and business representatives and participated in
separate events with the Newfoundland Symphony Youth Choir
and three Newfoundland and Labrador high technology
companies who are also visiting Ireland.
The Coast of Ireland This breathtaking photo was taken in Bunmahon, Co. Waterford. Most would probably agree that if any Newfoundlander were asked where this photo was taken, he or she would likely say the Cape Shore, Newfoundland. How can two places be so similar? It should not surprise us then to learn that millions of years ago, the islands of Newfoundland and Ireland were once joined. Last updated: September 9, 2008 |
